Equipment For Practices
For summer swim, your swimmer needs the following items for practice:
- Swimsuit
- Goggles
- Swim Cap
- Fins
Your swimmer will be provided a team suit and team cap as part of their registration, but these items are typically not available until just before our first swim meet.
Swimsuit: Most swimmers tend to have at least one practice suit which is similar in design to the team suit. This allows them to keep their team suit in the best possible shape for swim meets. For females, a one piece suit is recommended. For males jammers or briefs are recommended.
Swim Cap: While swim caps are not mandatory, they are definitely beneficial. Swim caps cut down on drag and keeps hair out of the swimmer's face. The swim cap your swimmer will receive with their registration is made of latex. Greenbriar typically offers swimmers the option to purchase a team cap made of silicone which are less likely to rip. Greenbriar also has a selection of team caps from previous years that can be purchased at a discount through the team store.
Goggles: Goggles protect the swimmer's eyes from chlorine and allow the swimmer to see better under water. Practices will last up to an hour so make sure your swimmer has a pair they can comfortably wear for that period of time.
Fins: We recommend getting “training” fins that are one-piece (non-adjustable), made from rubber, and have a slip-in design where your heel is covered and there is a small opening near the toes. Some of the more common brands are Finis, Speedo, TYR, Tritan, and Sporti (Swim Outlet’s online brand).
A towel, sunscreen, and a bottle of water are must haves as well.
